Etwas überraschend lasen wir heute ein Interview auf Billboard.com, dass Steve Lillywhite der neue Producer für das nächste Album sein soll. Lillywhite, war schon bei den Alben Boy, October und War für die Produktion zuständig. Bei The Joshua Tree hat er abgemischt, bei Achtung Baby war er neben Daniel Lanois und Brian Eno am Werk, und zu guter letzt bei All That You Can't Leave Behind, wo er für die 'Additional production' zuständig war. Wie auch nun offiziell von u2.com bestätigt wird, wird er neben Chris Thomas bei der Produktion des neuen Albums behilflich sein. 'Es sind verschiedene Produzenten involviert bei diesem Album' sagte Paul McGuinness zu U2.com, mit dem Hinweis auf einen natürlichen Produktionsprozeß. 'Chris Thomas hat gute Arbeit gemacht. Es ist gut wieder mit Steve zu arbeiten, aber es ist nicht so, dass wir wieder vom Anfang anfangen müssen'.

Lillywhite tells Billboard.biz he will take no time off and will begin producing an album by U2 next week. The as-yet-untitled set is due from Interscope/Island later this year. "It's the first time I'll have gone in to actually start a record with them in 20 years," says Lillywhite. "I worked on 'The Joshua Tree,' 'Achtung Baby' and 'All That You Can't Leave Behind,' but this will be the first time I've really set up the mikes and done everything for a long time."
