Die Richtung des neuen Albums beschreibt Edge mit "einige der besten Songs die wir je geschrieben haben" und "es wird ein sehr rauhes Rock n' Roll Album", Bonos Kommentar dazu: "It's rockin'". U2’s New Record Is Close To The Edge Speaking to Xfm Online, U2 guitarist The Edge explains how his band’s massively anticipated new album is shaping up, and promises that U2 will be hitting the stadiums for gigs next year. Talking to Xfm Online at the Ivor Novellos, where U2 picked up an award for ‘Outstanding Song Collection’, Edge explained how the honour will influence the material for the new album. “It’s going really well,” he explained, “And we’re writing some of the best songs we’ve ever written. It’s encouraging to get an award like this, it’s encouraging to kick even harder and make sure that the next batch of songs are as good as anything we’ve ever done.” “It’s hard to describe it, other than its just a very raw rock n’ roll album.” He continued, “A band in its primary colours of guitar, bass, drums, voice and a lot of vitality and energy… so far anyway. By the time it comes out it could be a country and western album.” As well as confirming early reports that the album will follow the back-to-basics style of their last release ‘All That You Can't Leave Behind’, Edge also stated that U2 would be touring the record, “For me the last record and tour was just a return to the basic sound of the electric guitar and how amazing that can sound,” he explained, “The simplicity of it. And this new record follows on from that, but even more extreme.” “We’ll probably spend the rest of the year finishing it and we’ll maybe have it out early next year. Will we tour the album? I’m sure we will.” As for Bono, when asked how the new album sounded, he simply replied, “It’s rockin’”. ©XFM
