Am Montag, 03. März, fanden im 'Point Thearte' in Dublin die alljährlichen Meteor Ireland Music Awards statt. U2 waren in zwei Kategorien (Best Group und Best Male Singer) nominiert und haben den Award für Best Group erhalten (Foto). Weiterhin erhielt Bono den Humanitarian Award, übergeben vom irischen Schauspieler Colin Farrell, für sein langjähriges Engagement in Sachen Schuldenerlass und Aids (Foto). Dieser Award ist mit €100.000 dotiert, und wird von Bono, anteilig mit je €50.000 an die humanitären Hilfsorganisationen Goal und Concern überreicht. Eine Ehrung für sein Lebenswerk, der 'Lifetime Achievement Award', ging an Bob Geldof überreicht von Bono. In einer Pressekonferenz nach den Meteor Awards hat Bono noch einmal ausdrücklich auf den "vergessenen Krieg gegen AIDS" hingewiesen: "While I am inspired to see people out on the streets to defend the potential loss of life in Iraq, two million Africans will die next year and the year after because they cannot get hold of medicine.
