Bereits 2011 hatten Bono und The Edge die Musik zum Rockmusical 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' beigesteuert.

UPDATE: Most of you guessed correctly: our story on a U2 musical in the making was an April Fool's joke. We hope that we were able to make you smile at least a little bit in these difficult times.

U2 following in the footsteps of Abba, Queen and Tina Turner? We have learned from reliable sources that Dublin might have another attraction coming up next year: A U2 musical is supposed to portray the band's career

Following last year's Joshua Tree Tour, we expect the band to take a leave from playing live for a while. For all fans who do not want to go without U2 music on stage for an extended period of time, a trip to Dublin might be worthwhile next year.

According to a reliable source, U2 plan to take their band history to stage as a musical. Current ideas for a location include the Bord Gais Energy Theatre (formerly known as Grand Canal Theatre) in Dublin and the musical might premiere in September 2021, coinciding with the band's 45th anniversary.

At this point, it does not seem entirely certain whether Ryan Tedder will be involved in realising this project. He played an important role in releasing the last two albums.

We currently do not have any further details on the exact content and set-up, though the title 'North Side Story' lets us assume that some of the narrative threads from the tours in 2015 and 2018 might be used.

In 2011, Bono and The Edge were already involved in writing the music to the rock musical 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark'. It remains to be seen how deeply the band will be involved in realising bringing their own band history to stage as a musical. It also is not clear whether we can expect some new songs for the play.
